✍️ Project background

Vocaly is a mobile AI app that helps vocal coaches and singers. I joined the company in the seed phase, just one week before the launch of the first MVP. At that time, the team consisted of me as the sole product designer, one full-stack developer, the CEO, and the CTO. At its peak, the team expanded to include four more developers and two designers, whom I introduced to the company and then led.

🤜 Challenge

At the time of hiring me, the company was in a difficult position. They were one week away from the planned MVP launch and had a bunch of app screens designed without regard for UX best practices.

<aside> 💬 My first assignment was to reproduce the screens to meet the interaction design standards within a very short deadline. The changes had to be not only user-friendly but also easily applicable in the code.

According to these constraints, I’ve planned the following long term process:

  1. Rapid elementary redesign - reuse whatever we can (one week)
  2. MVP launch
  3. Deeper fixes in user flows and interface (approx. three weeks)
  4. Stable version launch
  5. Continuous iterative development based on user feedback and investor briefs (18 months)
